Submerged Border Ice

Peace River upstream of the British Columbia – Alberta border (Canada), March 3, 2011.

Martin Jasek (an alumnus of the UofA River Ice Group) took this beautiful aerial photo of freeze-up on the Peace River.  Here, backwater from the approaching leading edge of an ice cover (ice front) is flooding border ice that is frozen to a gravel bar.
