More Wolves on the Athabasca River

Wolves  on the Athabasca River near Fort McMurray, AB (Canada), February 18, 2004

More wolves encountered during our winter field work on the Athabasca River upstream of Fort McMurray, Alberta in the winter of 2004.  I took this from the helicopter and was surprised to see them change course and run right for us when we dropped down to get this picture.  These wolves were about twice the size of the biggest German Shepherds I’ve ever seen – absolutely huge!  Luckily, we did not need any data at this particular spot. 🙂
